Linocut prints

Linocut is a type of relief printing or also called block printing technique, which means that what you carve away from the lino block does not get printed on paper or fabric. The printing process can be done by hand or with the help of a press - I do not own a press (yet), so I do print everything by hand. It can be exhausting for the wrist, but it definitely is a rewarding process. One lino block can produce many numbered prints for a series. I recently made my Pine series of 6 prints, but I'm usually up to do a maximum of 20. Later on, if I can afford a printing press I could get one and start producing more prints from a single motif. I base my decision on number of prints on the estimated demand - as a first series of products for my website I wanted to do a variety of motifs but with fewer prints.

I got really into linocut in my 3rd year of Bachelor's degree in my major Book, Illustration and Printed Graphics in NAA, Sofia, when a really cool professor showed us how to approach the process and the transfering techniques, the chemicals to use and the carving itself. I found that so fun and therapeutic!
